 "THE STORY OF PORTER"
or,"A long journey in a circle."

I grew up an ex-pat in Southern France, singing from birth. I always knew I wanted to be a musician, but when it came time to leave high school I thought I'd go to a nice Ivy league college, study something completely quirky and unrelated and THEN I'd do music. I wasn't able to escape my love for long, and ended up majoring in what turned out to be the only thing that interested me at Brown University: music.

When I graduated in '05, I had a premature mid-life crisis and decided I needed to backpack through the Pacific Rim to find out what my next step should be.

For 4 months I scoured Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Fiji and Hawaii searching for "myself". Strictly speaking, I didn't find her in any of those distant places. However, the trip made me realize that the only thing I missed being thousands of miles from home wasn't a warm bed, clean clothes, or a decent meal, but MY PIANO. Clarity!

For the first time in my life, it seemed like the right moment to pursue my passion.

Since then, I've been touring around the Northeast, I released my first self-produced CD, and I've been writing more and more material.

Beyond

I started the new year in 2009 by touring cross-country with my bestest friend (see insane videos here), leaving anything that didn't fit in my car (now deceased, RIP) in Connecticut. Now I reside by the beach, close to the angels.

2008 was the year I finished my first album, the self-fulfilling prophecy, which I wrote, arranged and produced over the course of 2 years!  It was a slow labor of love.  I learned a lot!  Hear it here.

Early Indications

When I was in the 2nd grade my teacher called my mom in...

"Porter has been singing in class while she works and I'm not sure what to do about it."

"Well," my mom replied, "is it bothering you?"

"Why, no, we all enjoy it very much" answered my teacher.

"Then what seems to be the problem?" my mother inquired.

"Well, Mrs. Singer, can you imagine if the entire class did as Porter does? It would be chaos."

"And is the whole class singing?"

"Well, no, not yet."

"OK" my mom reasoned, why not see how it goes for the next week, and if anyone else starts to sing in class, we can proceed from there."

The next week my mother asked my teacher how it was going...

"You were right Mrs. Singer, no one else is singing."
